(Kootenai County, Idaho) – Earlier this morning a text message and email alert were sent out to Kootenai County residents with the headline “Kootenai Sheriff Alert.” This message did not originate from the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office or the Office of the Sheriff.  The use of such a headline is misleading and constitutes impersonation of the Sheriff and the Sheriff’s Office.

The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office also wants to clarify that any reference to “Kootenai Sheriff Alert” in the context of any political activity is not an official communication from this office.
Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the fraudulent message and wants to emphasize to the public that any communication labeled “Kootenai Sheriff Alert” in a text or email message should be dismissed in its entirety.
