Man arrested after allegedly firing over 40 rounds along north Idaho interstate

POST FALLS – Just before 8:00 p.m. on Monday, Idaho State Police Troopers, Kootenai County Sheriff’s Deputies, and Post Falls Police Officers responded to the area of Interstate 90 near the Idaho-Washington border.
Police had received a report of a man near a Ford pickup, located in the interstate median, shooting a firearm towards the interstate as other vehicles were driving by. Early reports by witnesses said a rifle was being fired.
According to police, the interstate was shut down in both directions for a short period of time.  Verbal commands were given to the man who was subsequently taken into custody without further incident.
The initial investigation revealed that the man allegedly fired approximately 41 rounds in total. 23-year-old Wyatt Armstrong was booked into the Kootenai County Jail for Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm, a felony.  Idaho State Police also say Armstrong was also cited for driving under the influence, exhibition or use of a deadly weapon, and disturbing the peace.
No injuries were reported.
