COEUR D’ALENE – A Montana man was arrested on multiple felony charges on Monday after leading police in north Idaho on a high speed chase in a stolen car.
According to police, at approximately 2:00 p.m. on Monday, Shoshone County authorities received a traffic complaint of a possible DUI on a silver 2005 Honda Civic. Shoshone County Deputies were able to locate the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop on I-90 near mile post 45. The Civic did not stop, and the deputy initiated a pursuit. During the pursuit it was discovered the Civic was reported stolen out of Montana.
Idaho State Police took over the pursuit near mile post 19, in Kootenai County. Troopers were able to successfully deploy spike strips, effectively deflating the stolen vehicle’s tires. The driver of the vehicle continued to travel northbound of 15th, where a precision immobilization technique, or PIT maneuver, was used to stop the vehicle.
Troopers, along with Kootenai County and Shoshone County Deputies quickly apprehended and arrested the driver, 34-year-old Jacob Harteis of Missoula, Montana. He was booked into the Kootenai County Jail on probable cause for:
- Felony Eluding
- Driving Under the Influence
- Felony Possession of Stolen Property
- Driving Without Privileges
- Providing False Information to Law Enforcement
Idaho State Police say the investigation continues.
