SPOKANE, WA – Spokane County Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested a 22-year-old man on charges of child rape and other sexual assault offenses following an investigation into the reported assault of a 15-year-old girl.
According to investigators, Hussein M. Mahmoud Al Hassan met the victim through social media platforms Snapchat and Facebook Messenger, where he allegedly misrepresented his age as 19. Despite being informed that the victim was 15, Hassan reportedly continued communicating with her and offered to provide a vape in exchange for a kiss.
On February 18, authorities say Hassan met the victim in person. After she entered his vehicle, he began driving, stating he was only going down the street. He then pulled onto a side road, where he provided the vape. According to detectives, his behavior became increasingly aggressive before the situation escalated. The victim was able to leave the vehicle and walk home.
Following an investigation by the Sexual Assault Unit (SAU), detectives identified Hassan and established probable cause for his arrest. On February 25, SAU detectives and patrol deputies took him into custody without incident. He was booked into Spokane County Jail on charges of third-degree rape of a child, second-degree rape, third-degree child molestation, and communication with a minor for immoral purposes. His bond was set at $125,000.
Investigators say Hassan is also a suspect in a separate case involving the alleged sexual assault of a vulnerable adult. Authorities continue to investigate both cases, and additional charges may be filed.
