DMT Drug Lab Busted Near Spokane Schools—Toxic Waste, Psychedelics, and Guns Seized

Spokane County Sheriff's OfficeSPOKANE, WA – A lengthy investigation by the Spokane County Investigative Unit (SCIU) led to the arrest of a suspect and the seizure of large amounts of illegal drugs, firearms, and hazardous waste near two schools.

Detectives executed a search warrant on March 5 at a residence in the 2900 block of N. Perry Street, uncovering a clandestine DMT extraction lab and a psilocybin mushroom grow operation. Authorities seized significant quantities of N, N-Dimethyltryptamine (DMT), psilocybin mushrooms, multiple gallons of toxic waste, and four firearms, including a Smith & Wesson M&P rifle and a Mossberg 12-gauge shotgun.

The suspect, identified as 34-year-old Zachary S. Kennedy, was initially booked into the Spokane County Jail on two counts of possession, delivery, or manufacturing of a controlled substance. However, Kennedy was released on his own recognizance following a Spokane County Superior Court hearing on March 6.

As the investigation continued, SCIU detectives gathered further evidence, leading to additional charges. On March 17, authorities located and re-arrested Kennedy, adding four more felony charges, including hazardous waste violations and unlawful use of a building for drug purposes.

The Washington State Department of Ecology assisted in the disposal of hazardous materials, which included multiple gallons of Naphtha, a highly flammable solvent used in DMT extraction. Officials described the lab as posing a significant danger to the surrounding area due to the explosive nature of the chemicals involved.

Kennedy remains in custody at the Spokane County Jail.
