Northern Idaho Surgeon Sentenced to Prison for Video Voyeurism Involving Employees and Minors

COEUR D’ALENE, ID – An orthopedic surgeon in northern Idaho has been sentenced to prison after being convicted of 11 counts of felony video voyeurism involving several of his employees and the minor children of employees.

69-year-old Spencer David Greendyke was sentenced on April 4 by District Judge Ross Pittman to a total of 40 years in prison, with parole eligibility after 20 years. He was also ordered to have no contact with the victims for the duration of the sentence and will be required to register as a sex offender if released.

The charges followed a March 2024 incident in which an employee discovered hidden cameras in the office. After retrieving a memory card, the employee found footage taken inside the employee bathroom, including a video of the employee’s genitals. The same bathroom was also used by minor children of other employees.

The incident was reported to law enforcement, and a subsequent investigation by the Coeur d’Alene Police Department revealed more than 800 hidden videos recorded over a 15- to 20-year span. Due to Idaho’s five-year statute of limitations, charges were limited to conduct occurring between 2019 and 2024.

Detectives found that Greendyke had used hidden cameras to secretly record individuals using the bathroom during that five-year period. Chief Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Art Verharen recommended a 40-year sentence with parole eligibility after 25 years. Judge Pittman imposed the 40-year sentence with parole eligibility after 20 years.

Kootenai County Prosecuting Attorney Stanley T. Mortensen thanked Verharen for handling the prosecution and the Coeur d’Alene Police Department for its work on the case.
