ASHLAND, OR – LC State Men’s Golf is off to a strong start at the SOU Spring Classic. Alex Navarro leads the tournament individually with Luke West tied for second, and the Warriors hold a five-stroke lead over No. 6 British Columbia heading into Tuesday’s final round.
The tournament, played at Stone Ridge Golf Club, is the final Cascade Conference event of the regular season.
“The men played a solid two rounds of golf,” coach Zach Anderson said. “With some rain and wind in the first round, they stayed steady throughout led by Alex and Luke shooting 3-under to get us started. Going into the second round they wanted more, and their mindsets showed it. A 278 is some very strong golf. Alex continued his solid run of tournament rounds with a nice 66. The teams behind us will be chasing. The job is not finished. Still work to do.”
The Warriors held a one-stroke lead after the first round at 286, then shaved eight strokes off its game in the second with a 278. LC State is 12-under as a team with UBC is 7-under. Southern Oregon is two strokes back in third place at 5-under.
Navarro carded a 3-under, 69 in his first round with an eagle and two birdies and was even better in the second with a 6-under, 66. The senior carded a pair of eagles along with six birdies in his second 18 holes to take a 4-stroke lead in the top spot at 9-under.
Sophomore West was just as impressive in the first round with a matching 3-under, 69. He carded four birdies before a strong 2-under, 70 in his second round. He is tied for second place in the field with a 5-under-par score.

Sondre Andresen is just one stroke back at 2-over and a 74-72 day to sit tied for 14th. Freshman Lucas Oretga shot a 74 in his first 18 holes before a 78 in the second to sit tied for 32nd.
