Nez Perce County Prosecutor’s Office Partners with Local Businesses to Prevent Sexual Assault

LEWISTON, ID — In recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM), the Nez Perce County Prosecutor’s Office has partnered with several Lewiston businesses to distribute reusable cup covers in an effort to prevent the use of date rape drugs and raise awareness about sexual assault prevention.

The initiative comes in response to recent reports involving individuals being drugged at local bars and subsequently assaulted. The cup covers are intended to provide a safeguard against tampering and can be picked up at the following Lewiston establishments:

  • Hops and Vine – 527 Main St., Suite 2

  • Jollymore’s – 1516 Main St.

  • Corner Villa – 2110 14th Ave.

  • Canters – 416 Thain Rd.

  • Brock’s and Bravas – 504 Main St., #201

“Women in our community deserve to be safe at all times and in every situation,” said Nez Perce County Prosecutor Justin Coleman. “A single incident of drugging someone is completely unacceptable. People should be careful not to leave their drinks unattended, but the use of a cup cover can be an additional layer of protection.”

Rohypnol, commonly known as “roofies,” is among the substances used as date rape drugs. Effects can begin within 15 to 20 minutes and last up to 12 hours, often leaving the victim with impaired memory and physical coordination, confusion, and nausea.
