CLARKSTON, WA — A 33-year-old Clarkston man has been arrested following a vehicle prowl and theft reported in the Tri-State Health parking lot on Sunday. Authorities say the suspect, Cody Rae Roberts, faces charges of Vehicle Prowling in the Second Degree and Theft in the Third Degree.
According to the Clarkston Police Department, officers responded after a woman reported her 2013 Honda Civic had been broken into, with several items stolen, including a Nike backpack, Apple AirPods, and other electronics. Surveillance footage later showed a male suspect, identified as Roberts, removing items from the vehicle and fleeing with an unknown female accomplice.
Investigators were able to quickly identify Roberts based on prior police contacts and distinctive bright green shoes he had been seen wearing earlier that same day during a separate pedestrian roadway violation stop. Officers used video footage, along with previous encounters, to confirm his identity.
Roberts was located around 2:00 a.m. on Monday in the 1300 block of Fair Street. He was arrested without incident.
During questioning, Roberts reportedly refused to identify the female seen with him in the surveillance footage and declined to provide details about the final location of the stolen items. He allegedly admitted only to taking the backpack.
Roberts was transported to the Asotin County Jail, where he was formally charged. He is scheduled for a mandatory court appearance at Asotin District Court on May 6, 2025.
Police say the investigation remains open as they work to identify the second individual involved.
