10-Year-Old Student Detained After Bringing Pellet Gun to Coeur d’Alene Elementary School

COEUR D’ALENE, ID – A 10-year-old student at NExA Elementary School was detained Tuesday morning after bringing a realistic-looking pellet gun onto school grounds and allegedly threatening to cause a lockdown.

According to the Coeur d’Alene Police Department, the incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. The student reportedly displayed the weapon to friends while riding the school bus. A parent of a student who witnessed the weapon contacted the school, prompting a response from the School Resource Officer.

Upon arrival at the school, staff detained the student as he exited the bus. The pellet gun was found in his backpack. Authorities confirmed the student is facing charges under Idaho Code 18-3302I, which addresses threats of violence on school grounds.

Police emphasized the importance of educating children about the dangers and consequences of bringing weapons or toy guns to school. Law enforcement noted that such incidents are treated seriously and can result in criminal charges.

No injuries were reported, and the school day continued without further disruption.
