BOISE, ID – Idaho drivers are reminded that today, April 30, is the final day to legally use studded tires on vehicles, as required by Idaho Code § 49-948. Beginning May 1, motorists must have the studs removed to remain in compliance with state law.

Studded tires are allowed from October 1 through April 30 each year due to winter driving conditions. Continued use beyond the deadline can result in a $67 fine and contributes to roadway damage on bare pavement, according to the Idaho Transportation Department.

Drivers are urged to schedule tire changes if they have not already done so to avoid penalties and help preserve road surfaces across the state.
