Two Convicted Felons Arrested in Spokane County Burglary and Firearms Theft Investigation

MEDICAL LAKE, WA—The Spokane County Investigative Unit (SCIU) has led a burglary investigation that has resulted in the arrest of two convicted felons and the recovery of multiple stolen firearms and other property. The investigation, which began after an April 27 burglary, is ongoing and may result in additional charges or arrests.

According to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a reported burglary at a residence in the 23000 block of N. Crescent Road on April 27, 2025, at approximately 4:10 p.m. The home had been ransacked, and a gun safe containing several firearms had been broken into. A neighbor reported seeing a suspicious U-Haul truck in the area.

Through investigation, SCIU detectives identified 30-year-old Bradley J. Luiten as a suspect. On April 29, SCIU issued a regional alert for the U-Haul and shared details with local law enforcement. A Liberty Lake Police officer located the vehicle in the 1200 block of N. Liberty Lake Road after a Flock Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) alert. Luiten and a woman, identified as 31-year-old Sierra J. Sumerlin, were detained.

Luiten was arrested for first-degree burglary, and the U-Haul was seized for a search warrant. Sumerlin was arrested on unrelated misdemeanor warrants. Both were booked into the Spokane County Jail.

The investigation continued the following day. On April 30 at approximately 4:30 p.m., the Spokane County SWAT Team assisted SCIU in serving a search warrant at a residence in the 400 block of S. Washington Street in Medical Lake. There, officers detained 29-year-old Dominick W. Huey, who had an active felony escape warrant from the Washington Department of Corrections stemming from a previous identity theft conviction.

Inside the residence, detectives located several of the firearms reported stolen in the original burglary, along with other stolen property. Additional firearms were recovered from the previously seized U-Haul.

Luiten and Huey, both repeat felony offenders, are legally prohibited from possessing firearms. Investigators believe the two intended to sell the stolen firearms illegally.

Authorities say more charges are pending, including unlawful possession of firearms, and the case remains under active investigation.
