LEWISTON, ID – At approximately 3:10 p.m. on Saturday, Lewiston Fire Department units were dispatched to a structure fire at 2702 7th Avenue North. Upon arrival, crews encountered a wind-driven fire that was heavily involved in the first-floor attic area.
Firefighters quickly adopted a defensive strategy, using deck guns to knock down the main body of the fire and handlines for mop-up and overhaul operations. Due to unsafe conditions in parts of the structure, an excavator was brought in to assist with demolition and ensure complete suppression of the fire.
The structure was declared a total loss. Fortunately, no civilians or firefighters were injured during the incident. Salvage and overhaul were completed before the property was turned back over to the owner. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Lewiston Fire responded with three engines, three medic units, two chief vehicles, and a total of 17 firefighters. Clarkston Fire assisted with one engine and four firefighters. Lewiston Police Department, Public Works, and Avista also responded to assist with traffic control and utility shut-offs.
