Men’s Basketball Signs Mateen Usui to Incoming Class

LEWISTON, ID – LC State Men’s Basketball announced its second incoming freshman in Snohomish, Wash., native Mateen Usui. The 6-7 forward will be a Warrior in the fall.

“Mateen was on our radar fairly early in the recruiting process,” coach Austin Johnson said. “We loved his versatility and motor. His length on the glass and defensive end allowed him to play bigger than his height. Mateen weathered the storm of some tough injuries his senior year but was still able to help his team and Coach Joe Hardy make a run down the stretch. Mateen has all the makings of a great teammate and we project him to make an immediate impact here at LC and grow from there.”

Usui prepped at Archbishop Murphy High School where he averaged 14.8 points, 11 rebounds and 2.3 assist per game as a junior. He was named the team’s MVP and captain, and was All-WESCO Honorable Mention in 2024. Usui played AAU for Seattle Select where he helped the team to the UA Rise Championship in 2024.

“I chose LC State because of the opportunity to improve,” Usui said. “Meeting the team and seeing them play made me want to commit to the program. I am excited to contribute to the team and help them get to the national tournament again.”
