Prescribed Burns Planned in Southwestern Idaho’s BOSH Units to Improve Sage-Grouse Habitat

OWYHEE COUNTY, ID – The Bureau of Land Management’s Boise Fire Aviation Program will begin conducting prescribed burns on the Bruneau-Owyhee Sage-Grouse Habitat (BOSH) Units starting Tuesday, May 6, and continuing through the weekend, weather and conditions permitting.

The prescribed fire operations will begin along Flint Creek Road before moving to the Mudflat Road area on Wednesday, May 7. Both hand and aerial ignition techniques will be used to carry out the burns.

These burns are part of an ongoing effort to reduce wildfire risk, enhance wildlife habitat, and promote healthier, more resilient landscapes. Smoke may be visible from long distances, and the public is advised to use caution in the area, consider alternate routes, and avoid active fire zones when possible.

BLM officials thank the public for their support during these operations.
