Registration Now Open for 16th Annual Palouse Plein Air Painting Event

MOSCOW, ID – The City of Moscow Arts Department and the Moscow Arts Commission have announced that online registration is now open for the 16th Annual Palouse Plein Air painting event. Interested artists have until 5 p.m. on Thursday, September 4, to register.

Scheduled to take place from September 8–16, this year’s event invites artists to paint outdoors at any location of their choice within Latah, Nez Perce, Whitman, and Benewah counties. Artists must work entirely on location without the use of electronic or photographic aids. The competition is open to all artists aged 18 and older, and all painting media—including gouache, watercolor, acrylic, oil, and pastel—are eligible for submission.

The 2025 event will be juried by George Scribner, a Panama-born artist and filmmaker with over 35 years at The Walt Disney Company. Known for directing Disney’s Oliver and Company and completing large-scale oil paintings of the Panama Canal expansion and Shanghai Disneyland construction, Scribner brings extensive experience to the exhibition.

The juried exhibition will open on Thursday, September 18, at the Third Street Gallery inside Moscow City Hall, with an artist reception and awards ceremony set from 5 to 7 p.m.

Palouse Plein Air began in 2010 through collaboration between the Moscow Arts Commission and University of Idaho professor Aaron Cordell Johnson. The event continues to grow through partnerships with the University of Idaho College of Art + Architecture and local community supporters.

Registration and additional event details are available on the City of Moscow website and through the Submittable page at moscowarts.submittable.com/submit.
