LC State Men’s Basketball Adds McCall-Donnelly Standout

LEWISTON, ID – McCall’s Sam Penny is the third incoming freshman to sign with LC State Men’s Basketball, announced by coach Austin Johnson.

“Sam had a standout senior year at McCall-Donnelly playing for Jason Tinney,” Johnson said. “Sam was the focal point of the opponent night in and night out but still came through for his team and helped lead them to the State tournament where they finished third. Sam is a basketball junky and has really worked to be the best player he can be both on the ball and off. He is an unselfish player that understands there are other ways to impact winning aside from just scoring. Excited to see his work ethic continue on here at LC State.”

Penny, a 6-2 guard at McCall-Donnelly High School, helped the Vandals to a conference and district title this season and ultimately a third-place finish at the State tournament. He averaged 21.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game and was named the Snake River Valley Conference Player of the Year the last two seasons. Penny is a two-time All-State honoree and an All-State All-Star selection. He played AAU for Select Basketball.

“I chose LC because of the positive, winning culture,” Penny said. “I’m excited to be surrounded by talented, hard-working teammates. I am looking forward to the opportunity to be challenged and developed as a player at the college level.”
