MOSES LAKE, WA – A vehicle associated with an Amber Alert was stopped and two suspects taken into custody early Tuesday morning following a pursuit on Interstate 90 in Grant County.
According to the Washington State Patrol (WSP), the incident began at approximately 2:08 a.m. on May 13 when WSP Communications was notified by Oregon State Police (OSP) of a stolen vehicle connected to an Amber Alert. The vehicle, a blue Mazda CX-5, was reportedly near the westbound Winchester Rest Area on I-90.
Shortly after, a WSP trooper located the vehicle at the rest area approximately nine miles east of George, Washington. When the vehicle re-entered the interstate, the trooper attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle fled, prompting a pursuit that continued for about 17 miles westbound.
The suspect vehicle exited onto Silica Road and continued for another two miles before slowing to 34 miles per hour. At that point, the trooper conducted a Pursuit Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver, bringing the vehicle to a stop.
The driver, identified as 29-year-old Adan Osman Abdi, and the passenger, 26-year-old Trayviana Shoulders, were taken into custody with assistance from the Grant County Sheriff’s Office. Two children, aged two and three, were found inside the vehicle and placed into protective custody.
Abdi was booked on charges of felony eluding and taking a motor vehicle without permission in the second degree. Shoulders was charged with a court order violation, with additional charges pending out of Oregon.
The Washington State Patrol credited the cooperation of the Grant County Sheriff’s Office and the Moses Lake Police Department in the successful apprehension of the suspects and safe recovery of the children.
