Montana Murder Suspect Arrested in Coeur d’Alene

Kootenai County Sheriff

COEUR D’ALENE, ID – Law enforcement officers from Kootenai County and Coeur d’Alene collaborated last week to arrest a Montana man wanted for murder.

According to the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office, on May 8, the agency was notified by the Havard Police Department in Montana of a homicide investigation. Information provided by Havard Police indicated the suspect, Cody Rencurel, 36, of Montana, might be in the Hayden, Idaho, area.

Detectives with the Kootenai County Special Investigations Unit began tracking Rencurel’s possible location. He was found at a hotel in Coeur d’Alene, where officers conducted surveillance while Havard Police obtained an arrest warrant.

The Coeur d’Alene Police Department’s Community Action Team assisted with surveillance and the arrest operation. The Kootenai County Joint Agency SWAT Team was also placed on standby to support the arrest, which took place after the warrant was issued.

Following Rencurel’s arrest, detectives obtained a search warrant for his hotel room, where they reportedly gathered evidence linking him to the homicide. Authorities stated that the coordinated response helped prevent a potential public safety threat in the area.

Rencurel was booked into the Kootenai County Jail. Officials said he will be transferred to Montana to face charges related to the homicide.

The case number is 25-21070.
