WASHINGTON, D.C. – Idaho Governor Brad Little announced plans to travel to the United Kingdom this fall to explore economic opportunities following the recent U.S.-UK trade agreement.

Speaking from the White House on Wednesday, Governor Little said the agreement is expected to benefit Idaho’s agriculture sector by expanding access to UK markets for products such as beef, dairy, and processed potatoes.

The U.S.-UK Economic Prosperity Agreement, signed earlier this month, aims to reduce trade barriers, improve market access, and enhance collaboration between the two countries. Federal officials estimate the agreement could open a $5 billion market for new U.S. exports, including $250 million in agricultural products.

In 2024, Idaho’s agricultural exports to the UK totaled $2.97 million, with nearly 70% consisting of prepared potato products. The agreement is projected to create additional opportunities for Idaho’s dairy products, given the UK’s status as one of the world’s largest importers of cheese.

Governor Little stated his upcoming trade mission will aim to build on the agreement and identify new markets for Idaho producers. Idaho’s total food and agriculture exports reached more than $2.6 billion in 2023.

The broader trade agreement also includes provisions impacting aerospace, pharmaceuticals, and other sectors, along with tariff adjustments and measures to streamline customs procedures.

Governor Little’s office indicated the fall trade mission will focus on strengthening ties between Idaho businesses and UK partners.
