MALDEN, WA. – The Town of Malden and the Pine Creek Community Restoration Long Term Recovery Organization (LTRO) will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony on May 29 for a new community building that houses the town’s food bank, library, and community center.
The event is scheduled for 11 a.m. at 119 W Broadway Avenue in Malden and is open to the public.
The new facility was constructed with grant funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Whitman County, and support from an anonymous donor. The building replaces structures destroyed during the Babb Road Fire in September 2020.
Chandelle Frick, Director of the Pine Creek Community Restoration LTRO, described the event as a significant step in Malden’s recovery. “We are especially excited about the walk-in coolers and freezers for the food bank, the high-speed fiber access in the library, and the event space where large groups can gather,” Frick said.
The new building also includes an outdoor amphitheater with seating for 50 people, designed for performances, meetings, and community events.
In addition to the new community building, visitors will have the opportunity to tour the Malden Palouse-to-Cascades Trailhead, which is part of the cross-country Great American Rail-Trail, and view recently installed playground equipment.
