COEUR D’ALENE – A team of Deputy U.S. Marshals has extradited a wanted fugitive back to Latah County from Georgia, a country at the intersection of Europe and Asia.
50-year-old Rody L. Wilcox is charged with Lewd Conduct with a Minor Under 16 Years of Age. He is accused of molesting a six-year-old girl in Latah County. Wilcox allegedly admitted to molesting the girl in recorded conversations.
On December 6, 2023, Wilcox was originally arrested in Salmon, Idaho, but he later posted bond in January 2024 while pending trial. Wilcox later failed to appear for a motion hearing while on bond, and subsequently an arrest warrant was issued on July 17, 2024 for his for Violation of Conditions of Release.
Investigators learned that sometime earlier in July, prior to his hearing, Wilcox fled the country. The Latah County Sheriff’s Office, Latah County Prosecutors, U.S. Attorney’s Office, U.S. Marshals Service and FBI worked together to locate Wilcox. He was finally located and arrested by Georgian authorities in August 2024.
The U.S. Marshals Service worked with the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of International Affairs to secure the extradition of Wilcox back to Idaho on Monday. As of Wednesday morning, he is being held without bond at the Latah County Jail.
“If you are a Felon, no matter how far you run to escape justice, the Marshals Service will continue to look for you. This case is an excellent example that we will find you and return you to face your charges. We are proud to be able to leverage partnerships with county, state and federal partners to help keep our communities a safe place to live,” said U.S. Marshal Brent Bunn.
Latah County Sheriff Richard Skiles remarked, “ This is a prime example of our multi-tiered criminal justice system doing the work we are paid to do. Thank you to all our local and federal partners who assisted in the case.”
