Juvenile Suspect Arrested Following Deer Park Burglary and Shooting Investigation

Spokane County Sheriff

DEER PARK, WA – A 15-year-old previously convicted felon was arrested on May 13 in connection with several recent crimes in Deer Park, including a commercial burglary and a shooting into an unoccupied vehicle, according to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.

The Spokane County Sheriff’s Investigative Unit (SCIU) obtained a search warrant for the suspect’s residence near E. Crawford Street and S. Weber Road. Due to the suspect’s prior violent and uncooperative behavior, the Warrant Service Group (WSG), a small unit of SWAT members, assisted in serving the warrant.

During the search, the suspect was uncooperative, refused commands, and fled from deputies. Detectives noted the suspect was unarmed, and WSG members pursued him on foot without using force. The suspect ran toward a staging area where additional deputies were positioned and was taken into custody without further incident.

The suspect was booked into the Spokane County Juvenile Detention Center on charges of second-degree commercial burglary, third-degree malicious mischief, second-degree theft, and obstructing law enforcement.

According to investigators, on May 5, deputies responded to Expressway, located at 115 E. Crawford Street, for a burglary report. Two suspects, believed to be juveniles, reportedly entered the business by breaking a window and stole items valued at approximately $1,000, causing an estimated $400 in property damage.

On May 7, deputies responded to a reported shooting incident on E. B Street, where a victim’s vehicle sustained an estimated $5,000 in damage from three bullet holes. Witnesses reported hearing several gunshots around 3:30 a.m.

Following the incidents, SCIU detectives developed probable cause linking the 15-year-old suspect to the burglary and obtained the search warrant. During the search of the suspect’s room, detectives recovered several vape pens still in packaging and clothing believed to have been worn during the burglary.

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional arrests and charges involving other juvenile suspects are possible. Detectives ask anyone with information related to these incidents to contact Detective B. Humphrey at 509-477-3028.
