Eastern Idaho Highways to Temporarily Close for Railroad and Paving Work

REXBURG, ID — The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD), in coordination with Union Pacific Railroad, has announced temporary highway closures near several railroad crossings in the region beginning this month.

State Highway 33, between Rexburg and Sage Junction, will close Monday, May 19, through part of Tuesday, May 20, to allow Union Pacific crews to replace railroad crossings along the route. During the closure, drivers are advised to use State Highway 48 to Roberts and Interstate 15 to reach Sage Junction.

Additionally, State Highway 48 through the town of Roberts will be closed from May 31 through June 3. The closure will allow work on three parallel railroad crossings and associated paving. Motorists traveling through the area can use the Osgood Interchange south of Roberts to access I-15.

Digital message boards will be installed along both highways ahead of the closures to provide advance notice to drivers. Updates on the closures will also be available on the Idaho 511 app and online at 511.idaho.gov.
