Bond Measure on Ballot Today for Lewiston Residents

LEWISTON, ID — Residents of Lewiston are heading to the polls today to vote on a proposed $25 million general obligation bond that would fund major infrastructure upgrades within the city.

The special bond election asks whether the City of Lewiston should be authorized to incur indebtedness to improve underground wastewater, water, stormwater, and related road infrastructure. If approved, the bonds would mature over a period not to exceed 30 years.

According to the sample ballot provided by Nez Perce County, the total amount to be repaid over the life of the bond would be approximately $42.2 million, including $17.2 million in interest, based on an anticipated interest rate of 3.75% APR. While the city plans to use existing utility revenues and savings to minimize or eliminate the need for a tax levy, the estimated average annual cost to taxpayers—should a full levy be required—would be $36.15 per $100,000 of taxable assessed property value.

Polls will remain open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at designated locations throughout Lewiston, including the Nez Perce County Fair Building, Lewiston Community Center, Trinity Lutheran Church, Nazarene Church, Lewiston Police Training Center, Echo Hills Church, and Nez Perce Masonic Lodge #10. Voters can find their polling location at www.nezpercecountyelections.gov.

Voters must present a valid form of identification or sign a personal identification affidavit in order to cast a ballot. Accepted IDs include an Idaho driver’s license or ID card, U.S. passport or federal photo ID, tribal ID card, or an Idaho concealed weapons license. Student identification cards are no longer accepted under Idaho law.
