Hunters Rescued After Getting Stranded in Snow Near Northeast Oregon Forest Road

MEACHAM, OR — Two men who became stranded in snowy conditions while hunting near the Union County border were rescued early Tuesday morning by Umatilla County Search and Rescue.

According to a press release from the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office, dispatch received a call around 9:15 p.m. on May 19 from Andrew Bergeson, 30, of Seaside, and Trevor Lefebvre, 28, of Clatskanie. The pair reported they were stuck in snow along Summit Road (USFS Road 31) near Meacham.

The men had been hunting in the area when their Polaris Razor UTV became immobilized in snow. Despite several hours of effort to dig it out, they were unable to free the vehicle. As temperatures fell and wind conditions worsened, they contacted emergency services and informed dispatch they were not equipped to spend the night outdoors, instead using the UTV for shelter.

The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office activated its Search and Rescue team, which located the stranded individuals at approximately 2:23 a.m. on May 20. Both men were found in good condition and were safely returned to their camp.
