Idaho Falls Man Sentenced for Possession of Child Pornography

Justice

BOISE, ID  — Idaho Attorney General Raúl Labrador has announced the conviction of 23-year-old Alonzo Baltazar of Idaho Falls on three felony counts of Sexual Exploitation of a Child by Possession of Sexually Exploitative Material.

Baltazar was sentenced on May 12 by Bonneville County District Judge Dane Watkins, Jr., following an investigation initiated by a CyberTip received by the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Unit in February 2024. The tip indicated that Baltazar had uploaded three video files containing Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM).

A search of Baltazar’s home and digital devices, authorized through warrants, led to the discovery of 5,056 CSAM files. Among those files, 33 were linked to the original tip. Many files reportedly depicted children as young as three years old, including depictions of sexual acts involving adults.

At sentencing, state prosecutors recommended a ten-year prison term with eligibility for parole after three years. Baltazar’s defense sought probation. Judge Watkins ultimately sentenced Baltazar to five years in prison with the possibility of parole after two years. He is also required to register as a sex offender under Idaho law.

“This conviction is an important step toward justice,” said Attorney General Labrador. “Our ICAC Unit remains committed to identifying offenders, supporting local investigations, and doing everything in our power to protect Idaho’s children from exploitation.”

The investigation was led by Detective Jared Mendenhall of the Idaho Falls Police Department, assigned to the ICAC Unit. Assisting agencies included the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office, the Pocatello Police Department, and the Madison County Sheriff’s Office. Deputy Attorney General James Haws prosecuted the case.
