Southern Idaho Woman Arrested After Leaving Toddler in Hot Car

Sun, Heat, Hot

MERIDIAN, ID – Police in southern Idaho arrested a 35-year-old woman for felony injury to child after she reportedly left her 2-year-old child in a locked vehicle on Sunday.

According to police, at approximately 7:45 p.m. Sunday, officers responded to a call at the Idaho Pizza Company in Meridian. A concerned bystander had reported seeing a young child alone inside a locked vehicle, crying and visibly sweating. An employee of the business was able to open the vehicle door and remove the child as officers arrived on scene.

Emergency personnel immediately provided medical care to the child, who was transported to a local hospital in stable condition. The internal temperature of the vehicle was measured at over 130 degrees.  Allie Qiu was arrested at the scene and been booked into the Ada County Jail.

“This is a critical reminder that as temperatures rise, the inside of a vehicle can become dangerously hot in a matter of minutes. It is never safe to leave a child or pet in a parked car, even for a short time. We urge all community members to take extra precautions during warmer months and to call 911 immediately if they see a child or pet left unattended in a vehicle,” said a police press release.
