SPOKANE, WA — A Spokane man was arrested late Sunday night following a reported domestic violence incident in which a pregnant woman was allegedly assaulted and held against her will.
Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the 7000 block of North Wall Street around 11:20 p.m. on May 26 after a witness reported seeing a woman trying to escape from a red Ford Mustang while a man was punching her. The suspect, identified as 41-year-old Dwight D. Lansdale, fled the area before deputies arrived.
Deputies interviewed the woman and witnesses at the scene. The victim said Lansdale refused to let her exit the vehicle and hit her multiple times. Deputies noted visible injuries on the woman consistent with her account of the assault. She received medical attention at the scene but declined additional treatment.
Deputies recognized the victim from prior incidents involving Lansdale, who was already under an active Domestic Violence No Contact Order prohibiting him from contacting her or coming within 1,000 feet of her residence. Lansdale also had two active misdemeanor warrants for his arrest.
Authorities established probable cause for felony violation of the protection order, fourth-degree assault, unlawful imprisonment, and the existing warrants. A short time later, a deputy located Lansdale driving into an apartment complex in the 13100 block of North Addison. He was stopped and taken into custody without incident.
During questioning, Lansdale claimed the woman became upset and began hitting him during the drive. He denied intentionally striking her and said she may have injured herself. He refused to answer questions about the protection order.
Lansdale was booked into the Spokane County Jail on multiple domestic violence-related charges. The case remains under investigation.
