PORTLAND, OR – A 29-year-old man from Estacada is facing federal charges after being arrested for transporting a large quantity of illegal drugs from Southern California to Oregon.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Oregon, Anthony Barrera has been charged by criminal complaint with possessing methamphetamine and cocaine with intent to distribute. Investigators allege Barrera rented a vehicle to pick up and transport the drugs.
On May 24, 2025, law enforcement located Barrera driving northbound on Interstate 5. He was stopped and arrested at a rest area near Roseburg without incident. A federal search warrant was executed on the vehicle, leading to the discovery of 270 pounds of methamphetamine and two pounds of cocaine concealed in the backseat and cargo area.
Authorities also searched Barrera’s residence the same day, where they reportedly found two firearms hidden under the floor of a closet.
Barrera made his initial appearance in federal court on May 28 and was ordered detained pending further proceedings.
The case is being investigated by the FBI and the Multnomah County Dangerous Drug Team, with support from the Oregon-Idaho High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) program. Assistant U.S. Attorney Charlotte Kelley is prosecuting the case.
A criminal complaint is only an allegation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
