Southern Idaho Man Sentenced to 25 Years for Child Pornography Distribution

BOISE, ID – A Burley man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for distributing sexually exploitative material involving children, following an investigation led by the Idaho Attorney General’s Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Unit.

Tyrell Howell, 28, was convicted of two felony counts of Sexual Exploitation of a Child by Distributing Sexually Exploitative Material. He was sentenced on May 19, 2025, by Cassia County District Judge Blaine P. Cannon. Howell will be eligible for parole after serving five years and will be required to register as a sex offender.

The case began in September 2024, when the ICAC Unit received a CyberTip indicating that an online account later identified as belonging to Howell had been used to exchange child sexual abuse material during June and July of that year. Additional CyberTips linked Howell to similar activity in 2020 and 2022.

Detective Sam Kuoha of the Rupert Police Department, who serves as an ICAC affiliate, led the investigation. After obtaining search warrants, officers located multiple files of child sexual abuse material on Howell’s digital devices. According to the Attorney General’s Office, some of the material depicted prepubescent children, including infants, and included violent content.

Attorney General Raúl Labrador issued a statement following the sentencing, saying, “There is no place in Idaho for those who trade in the vile exploitation of children. This sentence reflects the seriousness of the crime and the commitment of my office to protect Idaho’s most vulnerable.”

The case was prosecuted by Deputy Attorney General James Haws. Assisting agencies included the Cassia County Sheriff’s Office, Twin Falls County Sheriff’s Office, and the Cassia County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
