WASHINGTON, D.C. — Hormel Foods Corporation, based in Tucker, Georgia, has issued a nationwide recall of approximately 256,185 pounds of its Dinty Moore canned beef stew due to the potential presence of wood fragments in the product, according to a May 28, 2025 announcement from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).
The affected product was produced on February 4, 2025, and includes 20-ounce metal cans labeled “Dinty Moore BEEF STEW” with a best-by date of “FEB 2028” and the lot code “T02045.” The USDA mark of inspection on the cans includes establishment number “EST 199G.”
FSIS reported that the issue was identified after Hormel received three consumer complaints regarding pieces of wood found in the stew. There have been no confirmed reports of illness or injury related to consumption of the product.
Although the items were distributed to retail locations across the country, specific store locations have not yet been provided. FSIS noted that some of the recalled stew may still be in consumer pantries and is urging anyone who purchased the product not to eat it. Consumers should dispose of the product or return it to the place of purchase.
At this time, Washington state health officials are not conducting any formal recall verification activities, but local jurisdictions have been notified.
