CLARKSTON, WA – A Clarkston man has been found guilty of sexually abusing a child and attempting to interfere with the investigation, following a case that began with a tip to authorities from a school counselor.
On May 23, 53-year-old Brian L. Harmon was convicted by a jury in Asotin County of three counts of first-degree child rape and one count of intimidating a witness. The investigation was launched after a school counselor reported a disclosure from a 12-year-old student.
Court records show the child told authorities they had been abused by Harmon between the ages of 6 and 8 while living in Asotin County. The incidents reportedly occurred in 2017 and 2018.
The Asotin County Sheriff’s Office investigated after receiving a referral from Child Protective Services. Following interviews and further inquiry, Harmon was formally charged and taken into custody in November of 2023.
Documents also reveal Harmon has had multiple prior encounters with law enforcement, including arrests related to theft, assault, weapons, drugs and domestic violence.
A sentencing hearing has been set for June 2. Harmon could be sentenced to life in prison.
