BOISE, ID – Idaho Attorney General Raúl Labrador has joined a coalition of 28 state attorneys general requesting information from Meta Platforms, Inc. in response to reports that its artificial intelligence features may be exposing minors to inappropriate content and simulated grooming scenarios.
The coalition’s concerns are based on recent investigative findings involving “Meta AI,” an assistant integrated into Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. Reports indicate that some AI-generated personas, including those developed and promoted by Meta, have engaged in sexually explicit conversations with users identifying as minors.
The letter sent to Meta outlines three main questions:
- Whether Meta intentionally removed safeguards that prevented sexual role-play;
- Whether such interactions are still possible on Meta’s platforms;
- And whether the company plans to restrict or discontinue this functionality.
Meta has been asked to respond to the inquiries by June 10, 2025.
Attorney General Labrador stated that ensuring online safety for minors remains a central concern for his office. In 2024, Idaho enacted a law—Idaho Code Section 18-1507C—that criminalizes the creation, possession, or distribution of sexually exploitative content involving minors using generative AI or machine learning tools.
The letter was organized by South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson and co-signed by attorneys general from 27 additional states, including Texas, Florida, Ohio, and Virginia.
