OROFINO, ID — A Kuna woman has been sentenced to prison following a lengthy investigation into theft and forgery at an Orofino accounting firm.
Mellissa A. Stewart, 48, pleaded guilty to one count of Grand Theft – Aiding and Abetting, a felony under Idaho Code 18-2403. Two other charges, Forgery and Felony Embezzlement, were dismissed as part of the plea agreement.
The investigation, conducted by the Orofino Police Department, revealed Stewart’s alleged involvement in financial misconduct during her employment with the firm. Authorities issued a warrant for her arrest, and Stewart was formally charged in March 2023. She waived her preliminary hearing on March 13, 2023.
On May 20, 2025, Stewart was sentenced in court to a unified prison term of up to 10 years, consisting of five years fixed and five years indeterminate. In addition to the prison sentence, Stewart was ordered to pay restitution to the victim in the amount of $67,601.41.
