North Idaho Man Sentenced to Prison for Aggravated Assault with Deadly Weapon

COEUR D’ALENE, ID – A Post Falls man has been sentenced to prison following his conviction for aggravated assault involving a deadly weapon, according to the Kootenai County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

Greg Alan Marson, 65, was sentenced on May 27, 2025, by Senior District Judge Scott Wayman to a unified seven-year prison term, with parole eligibility after two years. The conviction stems from an incident on August 12, 2024, during which Marson threatened his then-girlfriend with a handgun.

According to the investigation, the altercation escalated when Marson held a firearm to his own head, threatened to kill himself, and told his girlfriend, “My blood will be on your hands.” He then pointed the gun at her and said he would shoot her before turning the weapon on himself. Marson fired a round into the ceiling above where she was standing before fleeing the scene on a motorcycle into Washington.

Investigators later discovered that Marson had repositioned a security camera in the bedroom prior to the assault in an apparent attempt to prevent the incident from being recorded. A warrant was issued, and law enforcement later apprehended Marson after luring him back into Idaho. A grand jury indicted him on September 11, 2024.

Marson has a lengthy criminal history spanning five decades and includes more than a dozen prior convictions for offenses such as burglary, DUI, theft, controlled substance violations, and giving false information to law enforcement.

While the State recommended a 10-year sentence with parole eligibility after seven years, the court imposed a seven-year sentence with eligibility after two. The charge carries a maximum penalty of five years, with an additional 15 years possible due to the deadly weapon enhancement.

Prosecuting Attorney Stanley T. Mortensen praised the victim for her courage in reporting the crime and thanked Criminal Chief Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Laura McClinton and the Post Falls Police Department for their work on the case.
