SPOKANE, WA – An early morning shooting in Spokane’s Shadle neighborhood resulted in one arrest and an ongoing investigation, according to the Spokane Police Department.
At approximately 4:30 a.m. on May 29, officers responded to reports of gunfire near the 2400 block of West Rockwell Avenue. Multiple 911 calls were made after residents heard shots in the area.
Upon arrival, officers were informed that gunfire had been exchanged between individuals in a vehicle and a person inside a residence. A vehicle leaving the area was stopped nearby, and officers observed what appeared to be bullet damage on the vehicle’s exterior. The vehicle’s occupant was detained pending further investigation.
Additional officers surrounded the involved residence, and SPD’s SWAT team, Hostage Negotiation Team, and Air Support Unit were dispatched to assist. Police learned that a female and a child were inside the home along with the suspected shooter. A spent shell casing was found near the residence.
Two adult females and a child later exited the front of the home and were escorted to safety. Shortly afterward, a male—identified as 23-year-old Steven M. Davis—exited through the back of the residence and was taken into custody.
Following the execution of a search warrant, officers cleared the residence and confirmed that no other individuals were inside. No injuries were reported in connection with the shooting.
Davis was booked into the Spokane County Jail on charges of 1st Degree Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and 2nd Degree Assault. The case remains under investigation, and Spokane Police say additional arrests or charges may follow.
