Asotin and Whitman Counties Make Trump Administration List of ‘Sanctuary Jurisdictions’

BOISE, ID – The Trump Administration has released a list of states and local jurisdictions that “obstruct the enforcement of Federal immigration laws.”

Among the jurisdictions listed are the State of Washington, Asotin County and Whitman County.  In all, 36 of Washington’s 39 counties made the list.  In Idaho, the City of Boise was the only jurisdiction listed as of Friday morning.  The State of Oregon and 19 of the state’s cities and counties are also listed.  Hundreds of other locations from around the country are also listed.

The sanctuary jurisdictions including cities, counties, and states that the Trump Administration says are “deliberately and shamefully obstructing the enforcement of federal immigration laws endangering American communities.”

The Department of Homeland Security says the sanctuary jurisdictions “protect dangerous criminal aliens from facing consequences and put law enforcement in peril.”

Each jurisdiction is being formally notified of its “non-compliance with federal statutes.”  DHS is demanding that the jurisdictions immediately review and revise their policies to align with federal immigration laws and “renew their obligation to protect American citizens, not dangerous illegal aliens.”

Officials say the list of the jurisdictions can be reviewed and changed at any time and will be updated regularly.
