Heat Advisory Issued for Orofino, Grangeville, and Lower Hells Canyon Areas for This Saturday

OROFINO, ID – The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for Saturday, warning of dangerously high temperatures in parts of our region.

The advisory, which affects the Orofino/Grangeville Region and the Lower Hells Canyon/Salmon River Region, will be in effect from noon to midnight on Saturday, May 31.

Forecasters expect early-season high temperatures ranging from 90 to 102 degrees.  The heat poses a moderate risk of health impacts, particularly for individuals without access to cooling or proper hydration.

On Saturday, there is also a chance for increased fire concerns due to breezy westerly winds and very low relative humidity. Sustained winds will be 15-25 mph and wind gusts will be 30-40 mph, alongside very low relative humidity values.

The advisory also warns that rivers and streams in the area remain cold, high, and fast-moving, and murky conditions may conceal underwater hazards. Officials caution against using natural water sources to cool off without proper awareness and safety measures.
