PULLMAN, WA – As cottonwood fluff fills the air in Pullman, local firefighters are reminding residents of the seasonal fire danger it poses. The highly flammable fluff often accumulates in yards, driveways, and around groundcover like juniper bushes, creating a significant fire hazard.
Each year, Pullman Fire responds to multiple cottonwood-related fires, some of which have spread to nearby structures. College Hill is particularly vulnerable due to its concentration of cottonwood trees.
Residents are encouraged to help prevent fires by wetting down the fluff, raking it up, and disposing of it properly.
