Clarkston Home Threatened by Friday Grass Fire

CLARKSTON, WA – Asotin County Fire District #1 firefighters were called to a grass fire Friday afternoon threatening a home and an out building.

Firefighters were called just after 2:30 p.m. to a fire in the 2000 block of 13th Street.

According to Asotin County Fire District #1, when the first firefighters arrived they had issues gaining access into the backyard of the home where the fire was burning. The backyard had not been groomed and spring weed growth added to the fuel load of the fire.

Initially the home and out building were threatened, but firefighters and a neighbor, who is a retired firefighter, quickly knocked the spreading fire down within about 10 minutes.

The fire was contained to the back yard of the home.  The out building was slightly scorched, but no other damage and there were no reported injuries. The cause of the fire was undetermined.
