GREENWOOD, IN – Lewis-Clark State Baseball had four student-athletes earn College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honors, announced by CSC on Tuesday. Brandon Cabrera earned the honor for the second straight year while Robby Butenschoen, Charlie Updegrave and Noah Weintraub garnered their first accolade.
To be named CSC Academic All-District, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore in standing and maintain at least a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average. Student-athletes must compete in 90 percent of the institution’s games/contests played or must start in at least 66 percent of the institution’s games/contests. Pitchers must have thrown a minimum of 35 innings.
Butenschoen, a senior pitcher for LC State, finished his lone year as a Warrior with a 3.89 GPA as a business major. He was second on the team in appearances with 15, primarily out of the bullpen, and maintained a 3.18 ERA. He struck out 51 batters in 39.2 innings pitched and held opposing hitters to a .182 batting average.
Cabrera, a CSC Academic All-American a year ago, started 38 of the 40 games he appeared in after missing part of the season due to injury. The senior outfielder earned LC State’s President’s Award for his academic excellence and graduated this spring with a 4.00 grade-point average in computer science. He finished the season second on the team with 14 stolen bases and had 37 hits. In his final season, Cabrera had an on-base percentage of .423 and tied for the team lead with two triples.
Updegrave made Cascade Conference history and became the all-time leader in home runs in the conference. With a Cascade-leading 21 home runs this season, the senior had 46 in his career, which is a CCC record. He led the CCC in RBI (72) and total bases (164). The senior led the Warriors in hits (82), doubles (19) and slugging percentage (.450) and batting average (.376). He was one of two Warriors to start all 52 games this season. Updegrave wrapped up his LC State career with a 3.55 grade-point average in kinesiology.
Weintraub, the only LC State junior to earn the honor, had a breakout season as a starting outfielder. He hit .336 on the season with 50 hits including 10 doubles and three home runs. Weintraub drove in 23 runs and stole six bases, and tied with Cabrera for the team lead with five outfield assists. Weintraub maintains a 3.88 GPA while studying business management.
