Suspect in Clarkston Motel 6 Stabbing is Victim’s Brother-in-law

CLARKSTON, WA – A 68-year-old Wyoming man was located and taken into custody on Wednesday in relation to a stabbing at the Clarkston Motel 6 earlier this week.  Thomas Krogman, of Gillette, Wyoming, is charged with attempted first-degree murder.

Authorities allege that Thomas Krogman traveled from northeast Wyoming to Clarkston and attacked his brother-in-law.  The victim of the attack told police he did not initially recognize the suspect as Krogman as he had not seen him in years.

The incident occurred shortly after 11 a.m. on Sunday, June 2, at the motel on Bridge Street. Officers responded to reports of a stabbing and found the motel manager outside the building with multiple wounds to the head and torso. He was transported to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, where he was later admitted.

Surveillance video reportedly shows a man matching Krogman’s description entering the lobby wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, a hat, dark pants, and dark shoes. The man greeted the victim and asked, “Remember me?” before allegedly pulling the victim forward and stabbing him repeatedly in the head and upper body.

The suspect then allegedly pulled a phone from the wall, threw it to the ground, and fled the scene in a maroon 2011 Chevrolet Malibu. Investigators were able to use data from license plate reader cameras in Lewiston to later identified the vehicle as being registered to Krogman in Wyoming.  Police concluded that the vehicle traveled from Wyoming to the Lewiston-Clarkston area shortly before the incident and returned afterward.

According to court documents, the motive may be related to a decades-old family dispute over alleged sexual abuse.

On Wednesday, multiple law enforcement agencies, including police in Wyoming, reviewed surveillance footage and confirmed the suspect matched Krogman’s appearance. The Asotin County Prosecutor’s Office filed a motion for an arrest warrant, also on Wednesday, and the court granted it, setting bail at no bond due to flight risk and the severity of the offense.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Krogman was in custody at the Campbell County Detention Center in Gillette, Wyoming.

The investigation remains ongoing. Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact the Clarkston Police Department.
