New department aims to support long-term economic growth and self-determination
LAPWAI, ID – The Nez Perce Tribe has officially established a Department of Planning and Economic Development (DPED), according to an announcement posted June 4 on the Tribe’s website.
The new department is designed to guide the Tribe’s economic sustainability and growth while honoring cultural values and traditions. According to the announcement, the DPED will focus on both short- and long-term strategies to diversify and strengthen the Tribe’s economic base.
As part of the launch, the Tribe announced the interim appointment of Anthony Johnson as Manager of the new department. Johnson will begin work immediately in support of the Tribe’s planning and economic objectives.
