HILMAR, CA – August Egg Company has issued a significant recall affecting approximately 1.7 million dozen brown cage-free and certified organic eggs due to possible Salmonella contamination. Salmonella can cause serious, sometimes fatal infections, especially in young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.
The recall involves eggs distributed between February 3, 2025, and May 15, 2025, at various retail outlets including Save Mart, FoodMaxx, Lucky, Smart & Final, Safeway, Raley’s, Food 4 Less, and Ralphs across California and Nevada. Additionally, eggs were distributed to Walmart stores in California, Washington, Nevada, Arizona, Wyoming, New Mexico, Nebraska, Indiana, and Illinois, with sell-by dates ranging from March 4, 2025, to June 19, 2025.
Consumers are advised to check their egg cartons for plant codes P-6562 or CA5330 and Julian dates ranging from 32 to 126. Affected products should be returned to the place of purchase for a full refund.

- Simple Truth Medium and Large Brown Cage-Free (18 eggs)
- Sun Harvest Organic Cage-Free Large Brown (12 and 18 eggs)
- Sunnyside Organic and Large Brown Cage-Free (12 and 18 eggs)
- Various loose small, medium, large, and jumbo brown cage-free and organic eggs sold in bulk
August Egg Company is currently diverting eggs to an egg-breaking facility, where they undergo pasteurization to eliminate pathogens. The company has initiated an internal review to ensure the prevention of similar incidents in the future.
