CLARKSTON, WA – Organizers of the popular “I Made the Grade” bicycle ride have announced that the event has been officially cancelled, marking the end of a tradition for cycling enthusiasts across the region.

The ride typically begins at Chief Timothy Park on Highway 12 just west of Clarkston, travels its way along the Snake River before crossing into Idaho via the Red Wolf Bridge. The 18-mile route then climbs the Old Spiral Highway, ascending more than 2,000 feet to the top of the Lewiston Hill—a grueling yet rewarding ride known for its scenic beauty and physical challenge.

In a heartfelt message to the community, organizers cited new Washington State traffic control requirements as the reason for the cancellation.

“We are sad to announce that the I Made the Grade bike ride has been cancelled. Due to new requirements of Washington State, we are unable to safely meet the traffic control guidelines,” the message stated. “We are sorry for the late announcement as we were trying everything, even working with traffic control companies, to make this last ride happen.”

The event was organized by Harvest Wesleyan Church, which has hosted the ride for years as a fundraiser for their free community youth basketball camp every summer.

Over the years, “I Made the Grade” has become a rite of passage for many cyclists in the Pacific Northwest, attracting participants of all ages who relish the challenge of conquering the twisting, scenic highway that rises steeply above the valley floor.

With the future of the event now uncertain, organizers hope another group may be willing to carry the torch.
