Pocatello Man Arrested After Fleeing from Idaho State Police During Traffic Stop

IDAHO FALLS, ID – A 43-year-old man from Pocatello is facing multiple felony and misdemeanor charges after fleeing from Idaho State Police during a traffic stop on Monday evening.

At approximately 8:28 p.m. on June 9, Idaho State Police dispatch received a report of a white 2023 Toyota Camry driving erratically northbound on Interstate 15. The driver was reported to be speeding, failing to maintain lane control, nearly hitting other vehicles, and veering off the road. Troopers located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop at a Love’s truck stop in Bonneville County.

The driver, identified as Joshua Edward Maddock, displayed signs of impairment, prompting troopers to establish probable cause for a vehicle search. During the interaction, Maddock became argumentative and attempted to re-enter his vehicle. A physical struggle ensued, and troopers deployed a taser multiple times in an effort to subdue him, but the attempts were unsuccessful. Maddock then forcibly entered his vehicle and fled the scene, crashing through parts of the fueling facility and causing property damage.

The vehicle was later found abandoned at Rush’s Truck Repair, where it had crashed through a gate before coming to a stop. With assistance from the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office and the Shelley Police Department, Maddock was located hiding on the property and taken into custody.

Maddock was booked into jail on felony charges of eluding in a vehicle, malicious injury to property at both Love’s Truck Stop and Rush’s Truck Repair, possession of methamphetamine, and destruction of evidence. He also faces misdemeanor charges for resisting and obstructing officers, driving under the influence, leaving the scene of two property damage crashes, trespassing, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Captain Weadick of the Idaho State Police emphasized the importance of public reporting in the incident, stating that it began with a concerned citizen calling in the initial report. He encouraged the public to continue reporting suspicious or dangerous driving by calling *ISP (*477) or 911.

The investigation is ongoing.
