80-Year-Old Lewiston Man Dies After Being Struck by Vehicle on 21st Street

LEWISTON, ID – An 80-year-old Lewiston man was struck and killed by a pickup truck while attempting to cross 21st Street on Tuesday night, according to the Lewiston Police Department.

The incident occurred at approximately 9:27 p.m. on June 10, in the 1700 block of 21st Street, just south of Taco Bell. Police say the pedestrian, Dennis M. Diaz, was crossing the road from east to west when he was hit by a northbound 2003 Ford F-150 driven by Shawn P. Miller, 48, of Lenore.  Police say Diaz was not crossing in a crosswalk.

Sgt. Michael Topp of the Lewiston Police Department, who was two vehicles behind the truck at the time of the collision, immediately began life-saving efforts on Diaz. Paramedics quickly arrived and continued treatment, but Diaz was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Lewiston Police Department’s Major Collision Investigation Team responded to the scene, and 21st Street was closed for approximately three hours during the investigation.

Authorities are asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has additional information to contact Sgt. Craig Roberts at (208) 746-0171.
