BLM Issues Warning for Aggressive Mountain Goats Along Grande Ronde River

GRANDE RONDE RIVER – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Oregon and Washington has issued a public safety advisory following reports of aggressive mountain goat behavior between Meadow Creek and Alder Creek. According to officials, boaters have encountered two nannies with young in the area who displayed protective and confrontational behavior.

The BLM urges river users to avoid camping near wildlife and follow safety guidelines, including maintaining a minimum 50-yard distance, keeping dogs leashed, and not feeding the animals.

If approached, individuals are advised to retreat slowly, make noise, wave clothing or objects, and throw rocks if necessary. Incidents involving aggressive wildlife should be reported to the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife at (541) 426-3279.
