Body of Missing Farmworker Recovered From Central Washington Irrigation Canal

MATTAWA, WA – The body of a missing farmworker from the Mattawa area was recovered Tuesday evening from an irrigation canal, according to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.

The 30-year-old man was reported missing around 2 p.m. after coworkers grew concerned when he failed to return from his routine tasks. His three-wheel ATV was discovered still running and unattended along the canal near Road M-Southwest and Road 24-Southwest.

Investigators at the scene found evidence suggesting the man had entered the water. Columbia Basin Dive Rescue was called in to assist with the search and later recovered the man’s body from the canal.

The body is now in the care of the Grant County Coroner, whose office will perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death. The man’s name has not been released pending notification of his next of kin.

The incident remains under investigation.
